Burbage and Easton Royal’s juniors have become one of the latest beneficiaries of the Haine & Smith Charitable Trust. Janet Hartwell, the Clerk to the Trustees, presented the Club with 42 balls at a recent junior coaching evening, much to the delight of over 70 kids who voiced their appreciation with time-honoured hurrahs.

Since its establishment in 1995 the Charitable Trust has made over 500 donations to a variety of worthy causes in the communities surrounding their practices. In light of all the competing applications, the Club is delighted to have received the support of the Trust in recognition of its commitment to developing young local cricketers.

Running a programme like ours depends on more than the dedication of a selfless group of volunteers. Without funding we’d struggle to provide half the facilities and playing opportunities we offer. With over 20 junior age group matches on Red Lion Field throughout the summer, 42 balls are really going to come in handy. The kids are raring to go, either to put bat to the new balls or knock over some stumps with them. Preferably both.

If you’re reading this and your son or daughter hasn’t already been enrolled with Burbage and Easton Royal, why not bring them along to a coaching session. We hold them at 6pm every Monday in East Sands during the school term. There’s no guarantee they’ll enjoy the sport, but they’ll definitely make new friends. So just pitch up and ask for Paul Lavis, our Head of Playing.

And if your kids have already flown the nest then you’ll have some time on your hands. So why not come and support your Club this season? Hopefully the sun will be shining and what could be better than watching Michael Papps, our latest recruit, playing? He’s a former New Zealand Test player and Wellington’s 2013 Player of the Year. Wellington is one of the best provincial teams in the Land of the Long White Cloud so it’s a real coup For Burbage. Even though all but one of the teams in our division of the West of England Premiership have overseas’ players, were hoping ours will prove to be an unfair advantage.

You may never ever again get the chance to see a player of his calibre knocking sixes on Red Lion Field (I sincerely hope that’s not a Murray Walker moment, Michael). So come on round and meet your fellow villagers over a convivial glass of beer, while Michael and the 1^st XI cover themselves in glory. Or, you could always watch the match?

For the first two weeks we will train on a Thursday night before switching back to a Tuesday night. Training will officially start at 6.15 but please make an effort to get to the ground as close to 6pm as possible. Just like the indoor sessions, training will be run by 1st XI coach Paul Stoddard.

Lets keep all the hard work we did in the Indoor session going into the outdoor season!

We run Under s, Under 11, Under 13 and Under 15 teams, if you fancy getting into cricket and joining in the fun, please come along on a Monday night from 6.15, with this completed registration form and a cheque for £40 made payable to Burbage & Easton Royal CC.

We have some new nets, which will be opened shortly and will be available for all our Junior Members to use and we are also being joined by New Zealand Cricketer Michael Papps, who will be working with some of our junior cricketers!
